Wewurukannala Buddha Raja Maha Vehera 

Wewurukannala Buddha Raja Maha Vehera can be described as a scared place rever not only in the south but in the whole of Sri Lanka. This statue eighty eight feet high and can be seen about forty mites away in the highlands like deniyaya in Matara district.

Inside the sirasa of the statue there is a wonderful design that allows you to climb the stairs and see the surroundings thourgh the eyes . This is also my favorite place to go . A soothing place . There was an annual procession here as well as an elephant named Arjuna .

The temple museum is a must see place if you visit there . The most impressive is the large clock which can be seen from font of the building. Inside , the mechanism of the clock is protected inside a glass cubicle. Clock is working even today and rings at thewawa time at the temple every morning and evening.


This temple is a popular tourist destination as well as a place of worship for many .
